Posted: 03 Jun 2010 02:59 AM PDT If we are installing Microsoft Office 2003, 2007 or Office 2010 with default installation, usually in the folder where you installed this office will have a folder whose name MSOCache. Or maybe we ever see this folder on drive C:. What exactly is the content of this folder and how can it help? Here’s a brief explanation of what is MSOCache folder, what the benefit and can we remove it, given the fairly large size. When you install Microsoft Office (2003, 2007 or 2010) then the automatic, installation files will be copied in office at the drive in which the office is installed. For example we are installing Office on drive C, then this folder will be created in C:\MSOCache. MSOCache folder has the hidden attribute, so if windows explorer set to hide files and folders are hidden, then this folder will not be visible. To view them, enable through Folder Options. (Tools> Folder Options, select the tab “View” and give the check “Show hidden files and folders“).
Benefit MSOCache :MSOCache that contains the installation files have several benefits office or function, so when you do the following things we do not need to use the Office installation CD:
With MSOcache, the above operations do not require a CD/DVD-office, just retrieve files that already exist. If the above operation is not so important or necessary choose to use the CD, this folder is safe to remove (delete directly via windows explorer), considering the Folder MSOCache have a fairly large size, for Office 2007 is almost 500 MB and 2010 almost 700 MB. When installing Office, in the last few steps are also provided option whether we will delete the installation files in this MSOcache. If so, then the folder will not be made MSOcache (deleted). |
